What is CSS?
The Central Superior Services (denoted as CSS; or Bureaucracy) is an elite permanent bureaucratic authority, and the civil service that is responsible for running the civilian bureaucratic operations and government secretariats and directorates of the Cabinet of Pakistan. The civil service exams are competitive and provides equal opportunities to males and females, depending on their qualifications.The CSS Examinations are held at the start of every year. The exams are conducted and supervised by the Federal Public Service Commission. FPSC conducts the CSS exams and also recruit the passed candidates on the different departments of Civil Service.
How to apply for CSS and when exams are held?
Normally Federal Public Service Commission advertise CSS in the month of October and one’s have to apply online on FPSC Website and send the hard copy of documents on FPSC address. And exams are held every year in the month of February.
What is the Education Requirement to apply for CSS?
A candidate must hold at least a Second Division or Grade “C” Bachelor’s degree in any faculty of one of the Pakistani Universities or an equivalent degree or comparable educational qualifications of a foreign University recognized by Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. In case of third division in Bachelor, he/she has to obtained higher division in Masters.
Whether females are eligible for the posts announced by the Commission?
The civil service exam provides equal opportunities to males and females.
What is the fee for the exams?
Candidate must pay Rs.2200/- as Application fee for examination.
How many attempts can one make?
One can make not more than three (03) attempts for the CSS exam.
Would my subject combination affect my choice of any occupational group?
No, your subject combination does not affect your choice for any specific occupational group. You can chose any subjects and be considered for any group according to your marks and merit
For How many groups CSS exams are held?
For the following Groups/Services exams are held under the Federal Government:
(1) Commerce &Trade Group
(2) Foreign Service of Pakistan
(3) Information Group
(4) Inland Revenue Service
(5) Military Lands & Cantonments Group
(6) Office Management Group
(7) Pakistan Administrative Service
(8) Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service
(9) Pakistan Customs Service
(10) Police Service of Pakistan
(11) Postal Group
(12) Railways (Commercial &Transportation) Group
What type of exams are held in CSS?
The CSS-Competitive Examination-2017 shall comprise the following:-
(a) Written Examination;
(b) Medical Examination;
(c) Psychological Assessment; and
(d) Viva Voce.
What are the passing marks in CSS?
The qualification marks in CSS written examination are as under:
a) Compulsory Subjects – 40% in each subjects
b) Optional Subjects – 33% in each subjects
c) Aggregate Marks – 50%
Places of examination?
The examination will be held simultaneously at Abbottabad, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, D.I.Khan, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Larkana, Multan, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, & Sukkur depending on the number of applicants for each center.
A candidate for admission to the examination must have attained the age of 21 years and not over 30 years on 31st December.
How many marks of Psychological Assessment?
All candidates called for Viva Voce will be required to undergo Psychological Assessment, comprising written tests and group tasks. Such tests are designed to assess abilities, attitude and personality characteristics of the candidates with special regard to their aptitude for the Civil Services. Separate marks are not awarded for the Psychological assessment. However, 300 marks assigned to Viva Voce also reflect the performance on Psychological Assessment. Candidates must bring their National
Identity Cards and two copies of recent photographs when summoned for Psychological Assessment. If a candidate remains absent in the Psychological Assessment, he/she will not be allowed to appear for Viva Voce.
What is the passing marks of VIVA VOCE?
Each candidate who is declared qualified in written part of the examination will be interviewed by a Board who will have before them a record of his/her career, both academic and extramural. He/she will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the interview is to assess his/her suitability for the services for which he/she is entered and in framing their assessment the Board will attach particular importance to the moral and ethical qualities of the candidates, his/her intelligence and alertness of mind, his/her vigour and strength of character and his/her potential qualities of leadership. The Board will take into consideration his/her extramural activities such as sports, debates, hobbies, etc., and their effect on his/her physique and character, in assessing his/her merit.
(ii). All candidates are expected to have basic knowledge regarding Islam and Pakistan. Questions may be asked in the Interview on these subjects. Persons securing less than pass marks in these subjects will not be considered for appointment to Government jobs, irrespective of their proficiency in other fields. However, the Non-Muslim candidates will not be asked any question regarding Islam.
(iii). Viva Voce will be of 300 marks. A candidate who fails to secure at least 100 marks in viva voce will be considered to have failed and will not be eligible for appointment.
(iv). The result of Viva Voce shall be intimated to all candidates in due course of time.
